Strasbourg and Guingamp are separated by just two points ahead of their meeting in Ligue 1 this coming Friday night. The home team currently sit 11th, with 24 points from their opening 19 matches, which is not a bad record for a team who have just been promoted from the second tier.
More worrying however is the fact that the team has conceded 31 times. If they are to get dragged towards the bottom three, then it is clear that they will need to tighten up their defence. In an attacking sense, they have not managed to score many goals either, bagging just 24. Nuno da Costa is the club’s top scorer on just four, and fans will be hoping that the forward can improve on that in the second half of the campaign. Following this weekend’s match, Strasbourg face a tough trip to Marseille, so manager Thierry Laurey will have targeted the fixture as one to get points from.
Guingamp meanwhile are 8th, on 26 points from their 19 outings. Like their opponents on Friday, they have not been prolific in front of goal, but their defence has been much better, with only 24 conceded. This is a continuation of last season’s form, in which Guingamp were tight at the back and managed to nick many of their wins by the odd goal.
Experienced striker Jimmy Briand has been the standout player so far, scoring six times in 19 appearances. Moustapha Diallo has contributed four goals from midfield, but no other player has scored more than twice.
We see the home side taking this one to go into the top half. Our advice is to back a Strasbourg victory on the full-time result market, while for our correct score prediction, we think that the hosts will win the encounter 2-0.
