Strasbourg v Caen predictions- By beating a more than useful Bordeaux side on Saturday night, keeping a clean sheet in the process, Caen gave themselves a timely boost ahead of this fixture. Having failed to win any of their previous two, Saturday’s win came at a good time for Patrice Garande’s men. Strasbourg also secured a good result at the weekend, as they drew 2-2 away at St Etienne. Three points would’ve probably been more welcome, but, considering their general from away from home, a point was a good result, especially since they trailed not once but twice.
After what was no doubt a morale boosting win + clean sheet on Friday night, the visitors should come into this fixture feeling very upbeat indeed. At the prices, the bet that makes most appeal is ‘Caen Win/Draw Double Chance’.
Recent performances, particularly Saturday’s win over Bordeaux, have taught us that Caen are not averse to digging in and making life difficult for teams before aiming to strike on the break. Against a Strasbourg side who’re not all that solid defensively, such tactics could once again prove fruitful for Patrice Garande’s side. Just one loss – away against a strong Marseille side – in their last five bodes well, as does the fact that Caen have kept three clean sheets during that time. In fact, putting their defeat away at Marseille to one side, Caen have conceded just one goal in four matches, against Bordeaux, Nice, Troyes and Lorient (in the cup). Such a stat is very encouraging indeed.
Strasbourg v Caen predictions
Since earning promotion to the big time, Strasbourg haven’t disappointed, but, from a defensive point of view, they’ve begun to feel the heat of late. The fact that Thierry Laurey’s side have shipped a rather disappointing eight goals in their last four matches isn’t exactly inspiring, or rather it is but only from a Caen point of view ahead of this match. Against a Caen side who will likely set up to hit on the break, a weak back-line could once again cause problems for Strasbourg.
It’s fair to say that Strasbourg are a side who will look to get on the front foot at home, and they are probably more of an attacking force than Caen; however, unlocking what has been a sturdy defence of late won’t be easy on this occasion. Plus, the hosts really cannot be relied upon to keep a clean sheet.
All in all, as they’ve been defending well of late, the visitors are fancied to put in a better display than their current odds suggest. Backing Caen to avoid defeat on Tuesday night is the way to go.
