To say Sevilla are having a rollercoaster of a season would be a bit of an understatement to be honest. They, along with Liverpool, were touted as the frontrunners in this Champions League group, but at the halfway point Sevilla are actually on the back foot in the race for qualification from this group. They still have a great chance, but given their inconsistency it’s not a given that they will make a recovery.
Their last outing in the competition was a perfect illustration of this inconsistency. They went into their away game against Spartak Moscow having drawn away to Liverpool and beaten Mariboe at home, and considering the talent in their squad they were firm favourites. However, a diabolical second half performance saw them lose 5-1 in Moscow, and they followed that with a 4-0 loss at Valencia in La Liga.
All of Sevilla’s failures this season have come away from home to be fair, and at home they have a more than respectable record of five wins and two draws from their seven competitive games. Spartak Moscow will be brimming with confidence after their home match against the Spaniards though.
The visitors are actually in excellent shape at the moment. They picked up a point away to Rostov on Saturday to extend their unbeaten streak to 13 matches, and whilst they have only won six of these, the fact that they are unbeaten in the Champions League is very impressive.
The Russians have scored in all but two of their competitive games this season as well, and are now coming up against a Sevilla side who have conceded in six of their last seven Champions League matches.
Sevilla have scored in all but one of these games as well though, and at home this season they have scored 14 times in seven games. This makes a Both Teams to Score bet at odds of 4/7 look a very good choice, so we’re backing that along with a 3-1 win for Sevilla, due to their excellent home record.
Wissam Ben Yedder is the standout performer for the hosts. The French forward has netted a very impressive five goals in just five home appearances this season, including a hat trick against Maribor in the Champions League. Backing him to find the net looks a very shrewd move.
