Ipswich vs Reading predictions- Reading have finally found a bit of form in recent weeks to move themselves clear of the relegation battle. They have too much about them to really get sucked into that scrap and will be really able to start looking up if they can collect three points here. That won’t be easy though with Ipswich enjoying a strong campaign, particularly at Portman Road where they have been scoring for fun.
The Tractor Boys are only 3 places outside the top six and will fancy they can keep up their impressive home scoring run here. They average 2 goals per game at Portman Road this term, scoring 9 goals in their last 3 home matches alone. They also have the 3rd best overall goalscoring record in the division, with 1.67 goals per game.
Mick McCarthy’s men still have some work to do if they are to reach the play-off places but as we approach the halfway point, Ipswich certainly can’t be ruled out of the reckoning. In Martyn Waghorn, they have a prolific forward who has netted in 5 of his last 6 outings in Suffolk. Only five Championship players have scored more times than the former Rangers man this term and backing Waghorn to score anytime looks good here.
Reading are in good overall form with just 1 defeat in their last 8 matches but there are still weaknesses that Ipswich should be able to exploit. The Royals have conceded in 81% of their Championship fixtures so clearly they don’t specialise in clean sheets and that could be an issue against a free-scoring Ipswich side.
Jaap Stam’s men seem to be playing with a bit more freedom now and having built up a comfortable cushion on the sides at the bottom, they can now perhaps afford to take a few more risks and target the wins that would propel them into the top half. They will certainly feel they can cause Ipswich problems here and it should be a good game.
Given the ease with which the Tractor Boys have been creating chances and scoring goals of late, going for Ipswich to score over 1.5 goals in this game looks to offer value and that has occurred in 60% of their Championship matches at Portman Road this term.
They have let in 1.52 goals per game overall themselves though and only 6 Championship sides have let in more so there’s likely to be at least a goal in this for Reading too and backing Ipswich & Both Teams to Score could also be worth a flutter.
