It’s debatable whether Valencia strengthened or weakened their surprise title aspirations with a 1-1 draw against leaders Barcelona last weekend. On the face of it, they picked up a solid result against the clear title favourites but they may also feel they missed a chance to really open things up, given they conceded a late equaliser in the game. This will be a tricky game too as Getafe have impressed on their return to the top flight. However given the kind of season Valencia are having, it’s hard to look past the visitors here.
Not playing in Europe is a major advantage for Valencia as it enables them to essentially play the same team every week and their starting eleven is very strong. The midfield has a particularly classy look to it, while up front Rodrigo has been a revelation. He was on target again against Barcelona and has now scored in 8 of his last 10 league appearances. That’s some return for a player who has never previously passed 5 goals in a league campaign in Spain and on current form, backing Rodrigo to score anytime is surely worth a punt here.
Valencia average 2.33 points per away game in La Liga this term with a 67% away win percentage. With that kind of record, they should be winning games like this against a team that is at best heading for mid-table this term. The bookies are still not totally convinced by Los Che but when you analyse their side, there are precious few obvious weaknesses with a much improved defence, a well-balanced midfield and two in-form strikers, and all that makes backing Valencia to Win look good here.
That’s not to say they will have this all their own way. For a newly promoted side, Getafe have been excellent and they’ve already pushed Barcelona and Real Madrid very close at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez this term, losing both games 2-1. They average an excellent 2 goals per home match in La Liga, which suggests they are well capable of scoring at least once in this one.
The stats for both sides suggest we should see goals at both ends. That has been the case in 67% of Getafe home games and 83% of Valencia away games this season in La Liga. Meanwhile there have been over 2.5 goals in 83% of Getafe home matches and 67% of Valencia away games so backing Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score looks to offer value.
