Atletico Madrid vs Getafe predictions- Getafe have a woeful record against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid and it’s many years since they even scored a goal against their rivals from across the Spanish capital. They therefore won’t make their first trip to the Wanda Metropolitano in the most optimistic of moods.
To make matters worse, this will be the first league game of Diego Costa’s second spell at Atletico Madrid and that will add a little something extra to the atmosphere. Over a year has passed since the club were able to bring in new recruits due to the transfer ban so it’s a very welcome addition and he is just what they need.
Atletico Madrid vs Getafe predictions
Arguably Costa has never truly been replaced since he left for Chelsea in 2014. The likes of Jackson Martinez and Fernando Torres have come in but offered precious little threat and for six months at least Atleti fans should be treated to a potentially destructive strike duo of Costa and Antoine Griezmann, with the Frenchman himself likely to be on his way out in the summer.
Backing Diego Costa to score anytime is surely worth considering here. He will be restless to get going having spent half a season waiting for some action and managed to score just five minutes after coming on against Lleida in the Copa del Rey in midweek.
Getafe have done well on their return to La Liga and currently sit in a very healthy 8th place. They will do well to finish that high though and they have struggled for goals in recent matches. They’ve failed to score in 4 of their last 6 games and have lost all of their last three away fixtures to nil.
This to put it mildly is a very strong candidate for a repeat of that. Atleti are the masters at keeping clean sheets and have done so in 59% of their league games this term. They’ve also won 43% of their home games to nil and only Barcelona can better their average of 0.47 goals per game conceded.
Given all that, backing Atletico Madrid to Win to Nil looks good here. Likewise going for Atleti & Under 2.5 Goals appeals. Getafe are a well organised side and they should be able to keep the score down but it’s very hard to see the hosts not claiming all three points, particularly on a day when they will receive an enormous lift, in the shape of the second debut of one of their favourites sons.
